Last year I didn’t pay an overly amount of time to the library. But now that I am picking up books here and there for Merijn to learn to read and to read to him I have been in the library more again. Mostly I hadn’t been looking much at the library because I have so many of my own books still to read next to the arc pile that never seems to diminsh.
But now that I am picking up books to read to Merijn I’m browsing the children’s book section there more and there are always so many good looking books. So I’ve decided on a small list of books I definitely want to try getting from the library this year. This isn’t a hard goal or anything. Just something I want to pay some attention to.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (reread)
The Wicked King by Holly Black
The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
The Stolen Heir by Holly Black(NOT COMING OUT UNTIL JUNE IN DUTCH)
I actually read The Cruel Prince around the time it came out but then was never motivated to read on. But with more coming out around it and The Stolen Heir sounding good I want to give this another try. Since it has been translated here in the Netherlands I can reserve them from the librarly.
The School between Winter and Fairyland by Heather Fawcett
Ember and the Ice Dragons by Heather Fawcett
Last year I read The Language of Ghosts and Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries and enjoyed both immensely. These two have been translated so I can pick them up from the library. Maybe they’ll also be of interest to Merijn in the future.
Amari and the Great Game by B.B. Alston
I read the first book when it came out but hadn’t gotten around to the next book. The series is being translated so I can pick this up from my library!
Het Ministerie van Oplossingen by Sanne Rooseboom
This has been sounding like a great book series and one I think I might read with Merijn during the day here and there. If he’s interested in anyway.
I used to love a browse at the library, until the pandemic. Maybe my goal is to try it again?

If you have a well stocked library certainly do. Here they don’t usually carry the books I want as much (often not translated) so I just reserve the books I do want to read.

I’m really hoping to read Amari this year! 😍 I loved the first book although I didn’t hear that much about the second book until now. I hope you enjoy all these books! and happy reading!

I don’t have any specific goals about using my own library, but I do use it a lot, especially for reads I’m curious about but know I’ll probably never pick up again. For example, Spare by Prince Harry. Though I also would like to finish reading Holly Black’s Cruel Prince-related stories (Stolen Heir, How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories).

Yes I do like to use it for those kind of books as well (if they got translated at least) or those I’m unsure off.

These sound like great goals! At the end of last year, I found myself picking up books from the library that I was curious about but unsure if I wanted to own… and it worked! In some cases I enjoyed reading the book but knew I wouldn’t be reading it again, so I didn’t need to own a copy. And in other cases it was an extended preview that told me I needed a copy for my own shelves. I want to try to keep doing that, so that I can (somewhat) limit the books I buy to ones I know I’ll want to keep!

Same to be honest. The only draw back here is that most of the books I want to read aren’t translated (yet) haha.

That does make it harder!

I tend to get newer releases from my library and all of the audiobooks I listen to. It’s a great service and one I have taken advantage of a lot more recently.

I really wish I could get plenty from my library. I try to do it with the newer translated releases but it can sometimes take up to a year for them to appear in the library even then ._.
