Today is a Top Ten Tuesday halloween freebie (as always hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl). And on today’s photo challenge prompt for Spooktastic Reads is Urban Legends! So I decided to pick out a few.
There are so many urban legends on the whole and it is always interesting to look into a few and see which books feature them.
Golemns

A golem is an animated anthropomorphic being in Jewish folklore which is entirely created from inanimate matter (usually clay or mud).

Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness Monster (Scottish Gaelic: Uilebheist Loch Nis[3]), affectionately known as Nessie, is a creature in Scottish folklore that is said to inhabit Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. It is often described as large, long-necked, and with one or more humps protruding from the water.

Krampus

Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure in Central and Eastern Alpine folklore who, during the Christmas season, scares children who have misbehaved. Assisting Saint Nicholas, or Santa Claus, the pair visit children on the night of 25 December, with Saint Nicholas rewarding the well-behaved children with modest gifts such as oranges, dried fruit, walnuts and chocolate, while the badly behaved ones only receive punishment from Krampus with birch rods.

Rougarou

The rougarou is a legendary creature in French communities linked to traditional concepts of the werewolf.

Bigfoot or Sasquatch

Bigfoot, also commonly referred to as Sasquatch, is a purported ape-like creature said to inhabit the forests of North America.

Love your take for this week’s freebie! Very original 😃 I think I’ve read one book with the rougarou and it was totally unexpected but I enjoyed it! It’s a very creepy urban legend 😂

Love when books manage in incorperate legens and mythologies like that without it being clear from the start 😀

Great take on the theme! Don’t think I’d heard of the Rougarou before so that’s interesting.

Great topic, I love these urban legends, they’re so original! I didn’t know about Krampus, that one feels scariest to me for some reason.

Krampus is so creepy because it is so attached to such a big figure known for its kindness.

I think its so hard when you are born at Christmas. Gives it quite a different feel I’d imagine.

My parents had always been good with it by splitting it into two bunches of gifts- so I can also open presents on my actual birthday (though the recent years im given the choice to open all now or later 🤣 they do keep my card & giftcard for my actual bday though)
