Today we are meant to be talking about books set in a place I’d love to visit for Top Ten Tuesday (as always hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl). I feel as though I have done that a few times over the years and I don’t think that much has changed. In any case I don’t feel much inspired by it.
Instead, when I was watching some Miss Marple, this topic struck me out of the blue and I decided that I would have at it. I will be honest and say that I am most familiar with the most recent Miss Marple series and not the books. I especially prefer the first actress over the second as she was so shrewd haha.
Thara Celehar from The Cemeteries of Almelo by Katherine Addison
If there was one character that sprung right to mind for this prompt it was of course Celehar. A little older and one who digs his nose where others would not like it, I feel like these two would get along stellar.
Zhu from She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan
This one might surprise some of you but I feel like Miss Marple would have a begrudging respect for Zhu. Marple knows all too well about being overlooked and underestimated. And while I think that she would hate the whole murder aspect, I don’t think she would judge Zhu to harshly on that. On the other side I think Zhu would underestimate Marple on her part until she saw how shrewd that lady was. Hah.
Kaden from Wayward Children by Seanan McGuire
Kaden has so much potential in him and I think that Marple would see that. She would hint him in the right direction as she does with so many characters in the show.
Death from Discworld by Terry Pratchett
I feel like Miss Marple would be the one that keeps getting away from Death. I think she would admire how he tries to understand humans but also be bemused by it.
Robot from Monk & Robot by Becky Chambers
Robot would be one of those she has deep conversations with in non-clear wording that nobody around them would get. It would amuse them greatly.
