Time to Freak Out | 2022

It is that time of the year again (though I am a bit early) for the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag. I never wait to be tagged and just do it every year. I think it is a fun way to look back at the first half of the year. I think that is something we need to do some time. I will also be looking back at my goals next week as I think its good to see where I stand and where I am actually making progress.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2022 | Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022

I’m combining the frist two questions because the best books I read are also the best sequels I read. I haven’t found a book that wasn’t a sequel this year that I was truly in love with.

Jade Legacy is of course the final installment to the Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee and my what a rollercoaster that was. Magycker 2 is the conclusion to the duology and I am so glad I read this one with a autistic character by a dutc author. Crowbones is the 3rd World of Others book and the 8th The Others books. I still love this series, I can see its faults sure, but I love the characters so much. Feet of Clay is the 3rd City Watch book in the whole Discworld series and still so good. And then there is The Hunger of the Gods, the sequel to the Bloodsworn series by John Gwynne. Such a good series. Now to wait another year at least for the third book.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Biggest disappointment

Biggest surprise

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. I am not really a contemporary reader so me rating one 5 stars is a rare occurence.

Favourite new author (debut or new to you)

Aliette de Bodard has really gotten me with her The Dominion of the Fallen. So clearly I need to start diving into her entire backlist. Now where to start?

Newest favourite character

Theon from The Dominion of the Fallen is my new cinnamon roll.

Book that made you cry

The ending of The Hunger of the Gods was cry worthy!

Book that made you happy

It made me happy to reread The Darkest Part of the Forest.

The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

Probably my set of These Vicious Delights.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

All the books on my expected 5 star fantasy list of 5 I haven’t read yet!

  1. I’ll be doing this post in a few weeks, it’s one of my favorite posts of the year! I still need to read The Shadow of the Gods, I cannot believe I still haven’t read it yet😁

  2. I have my mid-year freak-out tag planned for Friday… I never wait to be tagged either, and just post it for the last Friday in June. 🙂 Reclaim the Stars is one that I’m really looking forward to (and haven’t read yet) too!
