Today is a freebie for Top Ten Tuesday (as always hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) and I’ve decided to go with a familiair prompt. Between the UK and the USA there is always the battle of the covers going on. Often both countries will have a different cover for a book that is being released in both countries. It is always interesting to see how different those covers can be and what we prefer!
So lets just jump right in.
UK (Walker Books) VS USA (Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers)
My Choice: USA
Honestly my choice is just based on what I think is prettier. The illustration of the UK works much better for the acutal book but the way the text takes away from it is so ugly I can’t actually stand it. I figured that USA would be coming with an illustration considering they also did that with the Lockwood books. It’s okay. I think I would have liked it better if the background had been more a sunset as with the UK cover. I don’t know.
UK (Harper Voyager UK) VS USA (Harper Teen)
My Choice: USA
I do like how the girl looks straight at the camera on the UK cover but otherwise I think it looks a little cheap. Which is a shame because Kingdom of Souls looked awesome. So I’m choosing USA which continues with the lovely ornament kind of style.
UK (Egmont Books) vs USA (Balzer + Bray)
My Choice: UK
Honestly both of these look awesome. And I like the look of the girl on the USA cover more because she is darker skinned as is the main character. But the UK cover draws my eye more with the text and the overall layout.
UK (Del Rey ) VS USA (John Joseph Adams)
My Choice: UK
This was a hard choice to make. They are both very different but I like both so much too. But looking at the book then the UK version fits better with the story. As I’ve heard a lot of complaints that the USA cover was making people think it was a very different book.
UK (Solaris) VS USA (Tor Books)
My Choice: UK
Ooh I like cover face-offs. Agree with you about the Stroud one especially. Same for the last one and The Conductors too. I think I picked all the same ones you did… 🙂

I picked the same covers you did for every book. Both covers for Amari and the Night Brothers are great. I was leaning towards the US cover at first because that’s the one I’m used to seeing, but I do prefer the UK cover.

I love the Goblin emperor earlier this year. It’s a really good audiobook. I think I prefer it’s US cover. But, I love the UK cover of The Conductors.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post:
Have a good week!

The Goblin Emperor got a redesign last year I think. I like the one with the emperor on it.

Yes I love the US cover of The Conductors too!

Love these covers, although I disagree about Reaper: I find the text is lost in the busy image on the US version. Amari has caught my eye on a couple of occasions recently. This my my freebie list: my favourite fictional detectives!

The text does get lost but the cover still draws my attention more than the uk.
Amari is such a fun read!

I love this! I agree with you on everything except Amari, I like the US cover the best.

Both Amari covers are awesome honestly.

Good selections. I typically like the UK covers better across the board…they are more interesting and less market-y, if that makes sense.

I 100% agree with you on The Conductors. Reading reviews, it sounds like I’ll enjoy the book when I read it, but I almost left it off of my TBR entirely because the US cover makes it look creepier than I’ve been told it is.

Yeah it is not that creepy but a focus on the characters in the setting.

I loooove seeing different cover editions face to face. It always makes me wonder the thought process of the marketing teams. And I’ve just added two of these to my TBR! Nice post!

This is a fun post, I always love looking at all the different types of covers. I haven’t read any of these yet, but based purely on the covers I actually agree with all of your choices (though there are some where I do love both).

It gives a very different vibe than the uk based on the back.

I agree with you on all of these. Seeing these side by side shows how a different cover can have a book give off totally different vibes, almost like it’s a different genre.

The Outlaws covers are so vastly different. I feel like publishers should at least make an effort to make covers similar.

Great topic choice! I agree with your cover choices, too! I love the UK Conductors cover, and I wish we could combine the Amari from the US cover with the font and colors of the UK cover, we’d have perfection hah.
