We are at that half way point of the year again where we look back at the first six months or so of our reading year. I always enjoy doing these kind of posts because looking back can be very important. Sometimes you forget the positive in the mid-stream of life.
But lets get into it.
You can find previous mid-year freak out tags here.
BEST BOOKS YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2021?

Tilly and the Map of Stories | Winter’s Orbit | The Conductors | Fugitive Telemetry
The Cybernetic Tea Shop | The City We Became | The Shadow of the Gods | A Master of Djinn
BEST SEQUELS OF 2021 SO FAR
Anything in the Mercedes Thompson series I’ve read this year.
NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT YOU WANT TO
Ugh too many. Black Water Sister. The Jasmine Throne. The Hidden Palace.
MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2021?
I am looking forward to many but mostly A Psalm for the Wild-Built. Can’t wait to read something not Wayfarers from Becky Chambers. But also The God of Lost Woods (third hell’s library book), The Undertakers (sequel to The Conductors) and Jade Legacy (the conclusion to the green bone saga).
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
Probably In the Ravenous Dark. There were some great elements but overal it just fell kind of flat for me.
BIGGEST SURPRISE
The Shadow of the Gods. I’d never read a John Gwynne book before but I fell in love with this one so easily.
FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR AUTHOR TO YOU)

Who else was I going to say?
BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
No crying but The Shadow of the Gods made my heart ache because I’m a mom and there is a mom in there and I just felt it.
A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
Crime and Poetry by Amanda Flower. A bookstore people, that shares upcoming events if you can decipher its hints. All in for that.
MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT OR RECEIVED THIS YEAR?

Prettiest is probably the dark red Dicken’s A Christmas Carol by Merel Leene. A Dutch reinterpretation I am hoping to read during the Christmas season at the end of this year.
WHAT 6 BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?
Hah.

Very good! I’m currently reading my 27th book of the year: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
Best book so far is The House in the Cerulean Sea. I also loved Lampje.
I’m looking forward to reading Akata Witch and Orakel, eventhough that last one gets mixed reviews.

Lampje is so heart warming! I’ve heard great things about The House in the Cerulean Sea. Still on my list to read. I’ve seen a lot of mixed things for Orakel too.

Reasonable. My reading isn’t up to par with other years but so be it.

Sounds like a great first half of the year! I’m looking forward to Psalm for the Wild Built too, it sounds really interesting. And I also need to read Black Water Sister still. Soon I hope?

I have a copy of Psalm and I am eying it but I have to finish my current arc before I’m allowed to start it haha.
