Dancing out of January 2021

January turned out to be quite a month. A lot of unfortunate events, a continued lockdown and continued schools being on lock down. My mental health took a big hit and I finally had to admit that I was not dealing anymore.

Of the 8 books 7 books were fantasy, and  1 book was sci-fi.
Out of the 31 days of January  I read 12 days which amounted to a total of 2975 pages. My best reading day was January 27th with 512 pages.

personal 2021

⌘ The lockdown in the Netherlands continued throughout January with an added bonus of a curfew from 20.30 to 4.30 in the last bit of the month. The hardest thing for us is just that school is closed and Merijn struggles with not being able to go. No structure, no other kids, and all this video with assigmnents and google meets with teachers and zoom with the speech therapist really give him so much tension that he acts out on occasion. It certainly didn’t help that I got sick again or everything else that happened to us this month. Some days I just have to forego any plans because it just isn’t going to happen becaus of his tension levels.

⌘ Husbands car broke down, and it being of an old age, it was not recommended to get it fixed. So we had to buy another car for him. Ka-ching.

⌘ When Merijn and I went for a walk on the 6th we saw our black cat of 18 months get hit by a car near our house. I tried to catch her but she ran away from me into the park. We didn’t see her for 2 days, and I feared that we’d completely lost her. Luckily she came home on the 8th on her own! We took her straight to the vet. Her jaw is broken in two places which will take at least 6 weeks in total to heal. Her eye also got a nasty hit and it was touch and go for a while if she would be able to keep it. We’re still not a 100% sure but it is looking more on the positive side. After more than a week she finally started eating on her own again. She is looking pretty good. In february they’ll pull out the wire that is inside to keep her jaw set in place and probably will remove her eye, and we’ll see how things will be looking from there on out. Lots of meds I’ve been giving. And clearly more Ka-Ching. She’s worth it, totally, but it was literally in the same week as the car.

⌘ And then my bladder infection seemed to come back. Fun times.

⌘ I decided to leave off Best of the Bunch for the time being because I keep forgetting and then having to rush to create a post of for it. It is no fun for me at the moment so better to leave it off. I’m unsure of what I want to do with the Alphabeticals meme where I still have to post c. Things just went to other end around that time. So I’ll have a think on that.

⌘ There were riots because the government put a curfew in place starting on January 23rd so that was a lot of fun.

⌘ I also had to admit that I am in a bad place. I just keep going until I’m about down, then get a break, get up to my knees and repeat. Obviously this is not a good thing and so we’ve had to put out some actions for help.

⌘ As a result there might be less posting on the blog. I’m certainly not going to dissapear, don’t worry. But where I normally had 20 planned in posts I only have one at the moment for coming Top Ten Tuesday. With Merijn at home for the past month and a half there has been little time to pay attention to the blog. Lets not even talk about that stack of comments and blog hopping I still have to do. But I’ve decided to not push myself. So if nothing appears because of time management or depression, so be it. If I force it I’m just going to develop a negative feeling towards my blog and I don’t want that. In May I will be blogging for 6 years. I’m not really going anywhere. #wink

  1. Yer usual blog posting schedule is busy enough to tire me out! I am very sorry that January was so horrible and I am not surprised that ye be struggling. Makes sense to me. Take care of yerself cause ye deserve it.

  2. Yes, January has definitely been the weirdest. And on top of everything going on, you also have had your own personal things to deal with. I must say, you did very well considering! You also still found time and focus to keep reading and all high-rated ones too. You can be proud of how you did, even though you don’t feel well about how things went. Give yourself the space you need to get back to you. Luckily schools will re-open soon, this might be scary but it’s might also make things more normal again for your family.

  4. Sounds like when it rains, it pours! So glad your kitty is starting to look like it’ll pull through, though! Such a difficult thing, especially having witnessed it. D:

Don’t forget some self-care! You do so much, and it’s okay to say no to things (like blogging if you get overwhelmed) and take time for yourself! Hope February looks up for you. 🙂

  5. Oh, Annemieke 😦 Ik ben wat laat bij het bijhouden van mijn feed, dus ik hoop dat ondertussen het tij voor jou en je familie gekeerd is! Neem zeker genoeg tijd en rust voor jezelf. Knuffel!
