I read over 150 books this year so it would stand to reason there are a few authors in there who I have never read before or maybe even hadn’t heard of before this reading year. Which is true. I pick up a lot of different books from different authors. I just like the change in works and worlds and writing.
So I can for sure make a list for today’s top ten tuesday (as always hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl). I actually focused on authors I hadn’t read before this year and who I read a few books from.

Rebecca Crunden
Books Read: A Touch of Death | A History of Madness
Earlier this year Rebecca contacted me to see if I would like to review A Touch of Death. I did, I read and I reviewed. I quite enjoyed this dystopian and its sequel.
P. Djeli Clark
Books Read: The Haunting of Tram Car 015 | A Dead Djinn in Cairo
The Haunting of Tram Car -15 was a free tor ebook in October and I read it pretty quickly after downloading. After that I went to buy the first novella in the series because I had to read more about this world.
Rhiannon Williams
Books Read: The Narroway Hunt Trilogy
I heard someone talking about the Dutch translation which made me pick up the first book from the library. Before that I had never heard from them. After reading that first one I just went out to buy the second and later bought the third when it was released in Dutch.
A.J. Hackwith
Books Read: The Library of the Unwritten | The Archive of the Forgotten
Early in the year I read my copy of The Library and fell in love right away. The Archive became my most anticipated release for 2020 right away.
Genevieve Cogman
Books Read: The Invisible Library | The Masked City | The Burning Page
I had meant to read this one for a while but never got around to it. But over the Summer I just ordered and jumped right in. It is just a very fun and easy read about librarians. Fighting ones at that.
Patricia Briggs
Books Read: Moon Called | Blood Bound | Iron Kissed | Bone Crossed
Of course I knew about Patricia Briggs but I just had never picked up any of her books. I finally read Moon Called and fell in love with our MC and the whole story.
Elizabeth Lim
Books Read: The Blood of Stars duology
I had Spin the Dawn on the shelves and with the release of the second one coming I finally picked up the book only to buy the sequel right after because I had to know what would happen.
Elizabeth Acevedo
Books Read: The Poet X | Clap When You Land
I am not much of a contemporary reader but Acevedo has convinced me I need to be reading all of hers.
Katherine Addison
Books Read: The Goblin Emperor | The Angel of the Crows
For Wyrd and Wonder we read The Goblin Emperor, a book I had been meaning to read forever. I loved it so I picked up the authors newest book. Not quite my cup but the sequel to the goblin emperor I’ll be picking up for sure!
Josie Jaffrey
Books Read: May Day | The Wolf and the Water
At the start of the year 2020 I started following Josie’s newsletter, but it wasn’t until much later that I finally read one of her books. Vampires for the win.
I wish I had read that many last year! I’ve read Briggs but it’s been a bit…

I hope that 2021 will be a better reading year for you Greg!
Sometimes with longer series it can be hard to keep track.

I can’t believe I forgot to put P. Djèlí Clark on my list! I’m so excited for A Master of Djinn. I need to try Elizabeth Acevedo’s work this year and I really want to give the Mercy Thompson series and The Invisible Library series a try. I’m glad you enjoyed them both!

Ooh, how did I forget Jossie Jaffrey?! She was new to me in 2020 and I really enjoyed her book as well 😍 Elizabeth Lim made it onto my list today though and I can’t wait to try Patricia Briggs and A.J. Hackwith this year. Great list, Annemieke! 😊

I tried Genevieve Cogman a while back, but I just found The Invisible Library confusing. I also tried Elizabeth Lim for the first time last year and I liked Spin The Dawn, but didn’t love it.

I don’t read a ton of contemporary either, but Elizabeth Acevedo has sold me on the genre (at least when she writes it). Great list!

I read P. Djeli Clark the first time last year (ish?) too, but it was Ring Shout. I still haven’t read the Cairo books, but I’m definitely going to pick them up before the novel drops this year! I really want to get around to reading Genevieve Cogman this year. We’ve finally got the entire series at our library, and I keep eyeing it and thinking I should go ahead and get started on it. xD Soon, hopefully!
