Mid through March the Netherlands went into a kind of quarantine. We never went into a true lockdown as we were still allowed to leave our houses for walks (and for some jobs) as long as they followed the rules and didn’t go to buys places. It was also the time that my father in law had a brain hemorrhage.
It was a hard time for us, Merijn especially. In that time I tried to find things to keep himself and myself busy and I thought it would still be fun to share what we did. So this post is photo heavy, just so you know.
Since Pre-School was closed from mid march to the start of May I wanted to offer Merijn some fun activities and still get him to learn something. Well maybe. And just having some fun things to get the dreary days a bit sunnier. This isn’t all we did but just to give you an idea.
So we did paint blowing.
And created weird hairdos for monsters.
We did a measurements set-up with cars.
Putting toy cars through the tube and see how far they came. Some went way too far but we had a few that stayed on the page haha.
Below you can see which cars stayed on the page and how far they came.
And we did some money coin sorting on size.
But what gave Merijn the most joy were plants. He was so excited about his grandparents strawberry plants that we got him his own and from there his fruit and veggie plant collection grew.
We got some chives and basil plants
And of course the strawberries!
He’s been a really good caretaker of his plants, the strawberries in particular. He looks at his plants at least once a day and loves to water them. He even pulled out a caterpillar that was eating holes in the leaves of his strawberry plants.
And here he is eating is first strawberry. The strawberry plants are now done though.
He got some onion bulbs from his grandma and they have been growing steadily as you can see.
We also got a tomato plants and a bell pepper plant (and in the middle a little sprout of the bean plant). The bell pepper plant has been struggling a little and we recently replanted it somewhere to see if that would help. But the tomato plant…
The tomato plant has gotten so so big and we have some tomatoes growing in them.
His grandma also gave him a little bean where this little one sprouted from. However…
…It certainly did not stay that small haha. It grew completely into our wooden raster which is fine.
Home Made Book Marks
I started with these. The Murderbot ones were for the readalong I was doing with Harker. The others were just a bit of fun. I think I got a little better along the way. You can see some more examples of what I did below.
Home Made Cards
After awhile I figured I could also create some of my own cards when needed instead of having to go out and buy a few.
This was my very late birthday card for Zwartraafje (and it is her photo). You can find some more below.
And then I made two of these.
And there you have it, some of our quarantine makings. Did you make anything during quarantine or lockdown?
