For today we are suppose to be talking about book events/festivals I’d love to go to someday for Top Ten Tuesday (As always hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl). However I am not that interested in those so I am going a completely different route.
Some books just manage to destroy. They turn you inside and outside. And some books do that by death of characters. Now I am not going to spoil who or what happens of course but I am going to share which books were at fault with this particular. It bears to mention that I rated almost all of these books 5 stars as well. So there…
Jade City and Jade War by Fonda Lee
In Jade City I just couldn’t believe it. I was so sure that it was fake. That seems to be the general reaction to it I’ve seen. And in Jade War, well tear out my heart why don’t you.
The Shepherds Crown (Discworld 41, Tiffany Aching 5) by Terry Pratchett
This book was always going to be loaded. It was released after Terry Pratchett’s death so everything in this was going to kick my ass to be honest.
The Sword of Kaigen by M.L Wang
My heart. My heart could not take this. :_: Also if you have not yet grabbed this book, please do because it is incredible.
The Bitter Twins (The Winnowing Flame 2) by Jen Williams
This one hurt so much.
Coral by Sara Ella
I thought it wasn’t going to happen and then it did, and it a 100% destroyed me.
Great list! Ugh I’m still not over The Sword of Kaigen, and Jade City is one I need to get to asap because I hear nothing but good things about it.

This is a great idea for a list, I’m sure I could come up with completely different examples. That is a scary thought!😬

I suspect The Shepherd’s Crown will hit me hard when I get there, too. I’m not there yet, though, so I don’t have to worry about it for a little while longer anyway.

At least I have lots of new-to-me Pratchett to look forward to…

Jade City is on my TBR, so now I at least know I’ll have to add some extra armour to my heart…

I haven’t read these, but deaths in books can be brutal! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

Yes so much pain.

I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to read TSC again tbh, it’s too raw, I’ll just have to pretend Tiffany’s arc ended on ‘I Shall Wear Midnight’!

Yeah I don’t think I could reread it too at this point.

Oh nooo. The Shepherds Crown is sitting on my shelf right now, and I was told to read the Tiffany Aching series next, and I have so many reservations now. I’m not sure I’m ready to be destroyed yet. xD

The Tiffany Aching arc is great! The Shepherd’s crown is Pratchett’s last book and it just hurts so much because of just that.

Oh, I didn’t realize that was his last one. =/ Especially considering how wonky the reading order is. Welp, yeah, that’s so much more understandable, given that.

Death is hard. The one that did me in the most was Bright Side by Kim Holden. After that, When It Rains by Lisa DeJong.

We always remember those kind of books.

Ahh I’m so scared to read these books now HAHA but I’ll definitely add them to my TBR since they do sound good

I haven’t read any of these, but shocking deaths are always the hardest in fiction! Especially when it’s a character we love. ❤

Yes it can really hurt so much ❤

Oh, dang, I haven’t read any of these but I’m definitely adding them all to my TBR. Because nothing says good literature like books that make you sob!

Great topic. I’ve not read any of these but I can think of plenty of books like this that have totally crushed me and left me sobbing.

In Jade City, I also could not believe that that character died. Until the very last chapter, I expected them to come back.
Happy readings!

Jade City has been on and off my TBR – I don’t really do gangster stories so I’m kind
of torn, but I might give it a chance sometime. Interesting list!

I was unsure because of the gangster portion too but I loved everything about these books
