Happy 10 Years to #TopTenTuesday | Looking Back at an Old Prompt | #TopTenTuesday 243

Happy 10 Years Top Ten Tuesday!

Time to party. Top Ten Tuesday is turning 10 today. For a meme to exist this long is pretty amazing. Thank you so much to The Broke and The Bookish for creating it and thank you to Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl for picking up Top Ten Tuesday when The Broke and The Bookish closed.

It is always fun to do Top Ten Tuesday and I love seeing other people’s creativity with the prompts. I also think it is an easy way to jump into the community when you are a newbie. \

So for today I am going to look back at an old prompt I did when the blog did not exist this long just yet. Back in August 2015 I talked about theFairytale Retellings I still wanted to read. We’re going to see if I actually did and then look at my physical and goodreads tbr for 10 other retellings I still want to read.

Have I Read the Books?

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige  >>  I have actually owned a copy of this for a while but have yet to read it. I’m honestly a bit on the fence.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh >>  I read both this and its sequel since 2015. I enjoyed The Wrath and The Dawn.

Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis >> I am still so drawn to this cover and that it is more of a sci-fi (I mean planet is mentioned in the synopsis). But I’ve heard mixed things so I never did end up purchasing it.

Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell >> I kind of forgot I wanted to read this back then. I have since even removed it from my Goodreads TBR.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik >> I loved this book!

Valiant by Sarah McGuire >> I kind of lost interest in this.

The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani >> I read it but thought it was just okay unfortunately.

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente >> I quite enjoyed this one but haven’t had the chance to read on with the series.

The Isle of the Lost by Melissa De La Cruz >> I lost interest.

Through the Woods by Emily Carroll >> I lost interest here again.

Four out of ten. Could be better but my taste has changed a lot over the years.

  1. Nice list, I do love me some fairytale retellings! Uprooted was so good! I read and enjoyed both Of Curses and Kisses and Splintered, though it’s been a few years since I read Splintered, so not sure how I’d feel about it today. Scavenge The Stars, Hunted and Sherwood are all still on my TBR.

  2. Great list! There are so many retellings that I want to read and basically all the ones you’ve listed are also on my never ending TBR 😂 I’m so excited for lots of these 😀 I hope you enjoy them!

  3. I actually had no idea there are so many fairy tale re-tellings! Thanks for sharing these. There’s just something about a fairy tale that makes you want to re-visit it all the time.

Sherwood looks nice! Hope you get to read the ones you still want to read real soon.

  4. I have read ‘Hunted’ but I felt the ending is a bit of a rush, it could have been a little longer but it’s an enjoyable Beauty & the Beast re-telling. I also read ‘Beauty & the clockwork beast’ which was enjoyable but too many mentions of vampires and the main story seems also to enter on them.

I hope you get to enjoy reading those two and the others.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. Yeah I’ve heard some, well not mixed, but lukewarm reactions to Hunted. Still I’m curious because of the author. I actually haven’t seen anyone having read beauty and the clockwork beast so thank you for your opinion.:)

  5. Dorothy must die staat hier ook nog op me te wachten. Van de andere boeken las ik tot nu toe enkel Ontworteld, Hunted en The surface breaks. Maar er staan nog wel enkele boeken in jouw lijstje die me aanspreken. Die steampunk versie van Beauty and the Beast bijvoorbeeld en Off curses and kisses.

  6. I can’t believe I haven’t read any of these yet! But several are on my tbr. Cinderella is Dead is getting so much attention right now. Hopefully I can get my hands on a copy soon! 🙂 Happy Reading!
