Did I Like the 2019 Releases by Beloved Authors Last Year? // #toptentuesday 220

Back in November 2019 Cait from Paper Fury talked about if she loved the new 2019 releases she read of beloved authors. It made me think on how that was for me. Did I read a lot of beloved authors? Or even books of authors I read before? Not even beloved? So I had a look at my reading list. I took beloved broadly in this case

This week is normally bookish discoveries I made in 2019 for top ten tuesday (as always hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl) but I am throwing that around a bit.

The Winter of the Witch (Winternight 3) by Katherine Arden

Did I love this? Well not as much as I did the second book The Girl in the Tower but this was still such a great conclusion to the trilogy to start the year with last year. I fell in love with Katherine Arden’s writing through this trilogy and this was just a great addition.

The True Queen (Sorcerer Royal 2) by Zen Cho

Did I love this? No. But it was still a solid companion to The Sorcerer to the Crown. And let us be real, that was a hard one to top. So there might have been some dissapointedment going on with me but I still rated it 4 stars so it is still a great read on its own.

Slayer (Slayer 1) by Kiersten White

Did I love this? Nope. It is my second book with Kiersten White and I was so pumped for it. But this was just a mediocre read for me. I’m not sure if I even want to read on with this series at the moment. I will however pick up her And I Darken trilogy to give her another go.

Not Your Backup (Sidekick Squad 3) by C.B. Lee

Did I love this? I liked it. Like I do this series. However this book does mean more to me than just a book. It made me realize that I am gray ace and that means so much to me.

Finale (Caraval 3) by Stephanie Garber

Did I love this? I liked it for sure. It was a good ending to the series.

Warp Gate Concerto by Dorian Graves

Did I love this? I loved how crazy and different this was with a poly trio and all kinds of different species.

To Be Taught if Fortunate by Becky Chambers

Did I love this? It is Becky Chambers. Do you really need to ask? It is very different from wayfarers but still so very interesting to read.

The Poison Song (Winnowing Flame 3) by Jen Williams

Did I love this? A 1000 times yes. One of my favorite reads of 2019. I actually read this whole trilogy this year. But I have read other Jen Williams books in 2018.

Firestarter (Timekeeper 3) by Tara Sim

Did I love this? Of course. It has Danny and Colton. It was a great finish to a great trilogy.

  1. What a super fun variation on the TTT theme! I love it. I am impressed you were able to read so much from beloved authors. If I looked back I think I found more *new* beloved authors than re-reading their works. Perhaps I’ll borrow this from you, from Cait, in 2020. 😉

I’m looking forward to reading The Winter of the Witch. I liked both the first two books in the series very much. Arden’s writing doesn’t always grip me, but I love the diversity of pacing she manages to pull off. Of the rest of these books, Chambers is the only other author I’ve read! Yikes. I have a lot to keep reading.

Which of the authors on this list I haven’t read would you recommend I pick up next? Any specific book of theirs?

    1. Haha I don’t mind paying it if it is for an author I love though I do try and keep an eye on when the prices drop because 20 euro is a steep price for 120 pages.
