And the seventh month of the year is already over. On the one hand this year is going by quickly and on the other hand, not so much. Maybe it is because I am waiting on things.
Anyway July was the month I had three 5 star reads. All three were so amazing that I had trouble picking the best of the bunch. In the end I went with the book with the author that was new to me. Unsurprisingly this month is once again all with books of adult fantasy. Young Adult still hasn’t been able to woo me this year.
Best of the Bunch is a monthly meme created by Jessica at a Coccoon of Books.

Synopsis
The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It’s the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities.
.
The Green Bone clans of honorable jade-wearing warriors once protected the island from foreign invasion–but nowadays, in a bustling post-war metropolis full of fast cars and foreign money, Green Bone families like the Kauls are primarily involved in commerce, construction, and the everyday upkeep of the districts under their protection.
.
When the simmering tension between the Kauls and their greatest rivals erupts into open violence in the streets, the outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself.
You know I bought this book a while a go based on people raving about it at the time of release. But then I heard it was about a crime family (because synopis reading and me do not go hand in hand) and that put me off picking it up for a long time. However when I did start reading it I fell in love with the characters in a way that they could be picking their noses and I’d read it.
Great recap! I also bought Jade City when I kept hearing people rave about it. I still haven’t got to it yet but I’m quite excited coz I think I’m gonna love it! It just sounds like a great premise and loving the Asian rep 😍

Ahhh I’m so glad you enjoyed Jade City so much! That’s what I’m currently reading! I totally feel you; I was really excited to read it initially but then I found out it was about crime families, and I didn’t feel motivated. But I’ve picked it up now and I love the characters? I’m only 100 pages in, but every single of the Kaul siblings has me engrossed.

The Jen Williams books are not available in ebook format in the US, and the Copper Cat series is only the first two books, but I’m going to keep checking. 👍✨
