Auto-buy authors is something I find a tricky topic. I have a lot of books and sometimes I end up having all or almost all the books by an author, just because they all sounded nice (cough JK Rowling cough). Not because I am in anyway attached to the author.
But on occasion there are those authors that do always stand out to me. Of which I do want to own all books. In who I have some or all trust. In some cases I do still need to buy a lot of their backlist books, in other cases I don’t. In other cases they aren’t in my area of interest (children’s books and the like).
So here we have some of my sort of auto-buy authors for this week’s top ten tuesday (as always hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl).
* Novellas
Terry Pratchett
Owned: Good Omens / The Color of Magic / Equal Rites / Mort / Sourcery / Wyrd Sisters / Guards! Guards! / Eric / Reaper Man / Witches Abroad / Lords and Ladies / Soul Music / Maskerade / Hogfather / Carpe Jugulum / The Truth / Thief of Time / The Last Hero / The Wee Free Men / A Hat Full of Sky / Going Postal / Wintersmith / Making Money / Unseen Academicals / I Shall Wear Midnight / Snuff / Raising Steam / The Shepherds Crown / Discworld Mapp / Turtle Recall / The Long Earth / Only You Can Save Mankind / Johnny and the Dead
Still Need to Get: Everything else, especially of Discworld 😛
Pratchett wrote so much in is life, it is going to take forever to catch up. But that is okay like I wrote in my why I am taking my time with discworld.
Jonathan Stroud
Owned: Bartimaeus trilogy + prequel / Lockwood & co. series
Still Need to Get: Heroes of the Valley / Buried Fire/ The Leap / The Last Siege
You know Stroud is one of my favorite authors but I haven’t gotten to the books he read in between Bartimaeus and Lockwood. They never really got on or got any attention. I still want to read them but I am in no rush.
Rachel Hartman
Owned: Seraphina duology / Tess of the Road
Still Need to Get: x
Up to date here. There is a children’s series she wrote but I’m not interested in that.
Jen Williams
Owned: The Copper Cat Trilogy / The Ninth Rain / The Bitter Twins
Still Need to Get: The Poison Song
The Poison Song only came out this year so I am fairly up to date here as well. This is one of my newest additions to my favorite authors list.
Rick Riordan
Owned: Percy Jackson / The Heroes of Olympus / Magnus Chase / Trials of Apollo 1-3 / Companion books
Still Need to Get: The Kane Chronicles / Tres Navarre
I have read and own a lot. The question is, do I want to go back to his earlier books? I will probably read The Kane Chronicles from the library as they are translated, and unless I love them, will not buy them for myself. I am undecided on the Tres Navarre series.
Naomi Novik
Owned: Temeraire 1-7 / Uprooted / Spinning Silver
Still Need to Get: Temeraire 8-9 / Golden Age and Other Stories / Will Supervillains Be on the Final?
Naomi Novik is just great and I really need to start Temeraire.
Zen Cho
Owned: Sorcerer to the Crown / True Queen / The Terracotta Bride * / Spirits Abroad *
Still Need to Get: The House of Aunts * / The Perilous Life of Jade Yeo *
I love Zen Cho’s first full novel so I really need to go back and read some of her novella’s.
Becky Chambers
Owned: Wayfarers 1-3
Still Need to Get: To be Taught, if Fortunate *
So To be Taught, If Fortunate isn’t out yet so I am up to date here as well, technically. I do still want to own a physical copy of Wayfarer 1. Now I just have the ebook.
Becky Chambers- yes!!! So agree. And Pratchett I’d like to read because it seems so wrong that I never have…

Great list! Becky Chambers made my list this week, too. I’m reading Seraphina at the moment and really enjoying it, so I’m hoping Rachel Hartman might become a new favourite. 🙂 I need to start the Temeraire series, too!

Terry Pratchett is probably the only auto-buy author I have if I find his books out in the wild. xD I’ve bought them at second hand shops, Dollar Stores, and sometimes Kindle sales. Whenever I see them discounted, I snag what ones I can, because it’ll probably take me the next 10 years to collect them all at this rate LOL.
I actually got Stroud’s Heroes of the Valley at the library book sale today, and I thought of you!

Haha yup same. Slowly but surely we will get that collection complete haha.
Ah that is great! He is coming to Castlefest here in the Netherlands *.*

I did a “not exactly auto-buy” list, too. 📚
Of course Pratchett and JKR were on it. I was thinking about putting Becky Chambers on it, but I have all three books on my Kindle and I really want to wait and see if they will some day either release the first book in hardcover, or maybe do a boxed set. 😛

So great! I need to read more Naomi Novik because I loved Uprooted and Spinning Silver! I have the first book of her Temeraire series. Also, that Becky Chambers book looks amazing?! Will be sure to check her out 🙂

I loved the first Temeraire book too! I mean compared to Uprooted and SS it shows how she has grown in her writing since writing Temeraire but I still really loved it.

I’ve just started reading the Temeraire series! I’m currently on book 3. I love them. ❤ I also read Uprooted which I quite enjoyed! It wasn't a favourite but I did really like it.

Yes i have now read book 1 and I really loved it. When I have time outside of arcs and readathons I am for sure continuing.

I loved The Perilous Life of Jade Yeo! I think it made my best of list a few years back. (I actually haven’t read any of her novels and need to make that a priority). I struggle with novellas ordinarily, but this one doesn’t feel too short or rushed.

I love Rick Riordan but I’m so behind on his books – but lots to look forward to I guess 🙂 Naomi Novik and Becky Chambers are both authors I want to check out (more of).
