Fantasy Books That Deserve Epic Adaptations Like Harry Potter and LOTR / #toptentuesday 188

I’ll be the first to admit that I am always very hesitant of movie or tv show adaptations. It is hard to get the right screenplay, actors, and lets not forget, budget. Because that is often a big thing too. Money. Especially fantasy needs a lot of extras to work. It means it needs more money. Of course money doesn’t nessecarily mean the book will be done justice but you know what I mean. A lot of book adaptations don’t get the treatment that LOTR or HP got.

However if budget or the right screen play weren’t a thing to worry about there are some books I’d love to see on the big screen as a movie or a tv show. So for this page to screen freebie of Top Ten Tuesday (as always hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl).

Linking this up with the month long fun Wyrd and Wonder fantasy event.

I know this would make an awesome tv show. The ghosts, the kids, the side characters. (I know you are all thinking why didn’t I choose Bartimaeus, it is because that is too close to my heart and nobody could ever do justice to Bartimaeus or Nathaniel in my eyes).

I want to see the clock towers and the clock spirits. I would love to see how the world has changed because of it and I love the air ships that came in later books.

Somehow I feel this would make a rather intriguing creepy movie to watch for Halloween.

I know that it is a graphic novel but I would just love to see it all in motion. Animation of course.

There are pyramids in London in this book. Can you imagine the sight? (It is because of an alternate history by the way) There are vampires and steampunk. Such awesome elements to see!

You might have noticed I fell in love with these middle grade fantasy books. It would be so awesome to see these books from page to screen. To see Nevermoor come to life.

What books would you like to see adapted if wrong/bad adaptions weren’t an option?

  1. I’m always a little wary of adaptations too, especially if I really loved the book. Sometimes the adaptations just don’t do the book justice. LOTR and Harry Potter were well done though. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

    1. Do it~ You know I just read Pages & Co which is a MG that isn’t talked about as much but still just as great. I think you could really like that too (maybe even more?). If you want to put off Nevermoor a little bit more. 😉

  2. I’m also always hesitant of tv and film adaptions, but I’m trying to give them an opportunity instead of instantly believing that the adaptation will be awful. I haven’t read any of the books you mentioned on your list, but I’m always happy to watch fantasy series.

    Happy readings! 😉

    1. As much as I love to read fantasy I tend to watch sci-fi more haha.
But yes we do need to give them the benefit of the doubt most times.

  3. I know the feeling. It happened when Hollywood made A series of unfortunate events and made a mess. Now that Netflix did it I was amazed at how wonderful a job they did. Oh, I’d love to see all of Discworld.

      1. Yeah, they made Hogfather, The colour of magic, and I’m sure they also did Going Postal. I’ve watched the first two (even bought them) and I loved them. The third I haven’t been able to find. And I never knew why they didn’t make anymore. I thought those productions were really well done.

  4. You know, I would’ve been sort of disappointed if Stroud wasn’t on the top of your list, though I’m a little surprised that you picked Lockwood instead of Bartimaeus. Though, I guess your reasoning makes sense. There are some things I’d be afraid of them making into a film, too, because there’s no way they’d do it justice. xD

Yes, yes, YES to Nevermoor, please. Someone go make that one happen! It’s a book that’s just BEGGING to be a hit movie franchise.

    1. That would be interesting. Not sure if that would ever happen as animated doesn’t quite cash in as much as live action with book to movie. 😦

      1. Yea, I know. I think I’m probably the only person who’s prefer animated adaptations of certain fantasy books. I think they’re able to include more from the story that way.

  5. GAH I have not read any of these- but a LOT are on my TBR so that bodes well! I am not sure- I generally think of a lot of sci-fi stuff I’d love to see adapted, but fantasy… that is much harder! I’d LOVE to see Unwind, Illuminae (wasn’t that supposed to happen?!), and Scythe, among others!

  6. I still think the Bartimaeus books would make great anime and I’m sticking to it! 😊

I would love to see the Inkworld books made into theatrical release movies. That shitty made-for-television movie the made of Inkspell was horrendous. 😝
