When you read there are so many different books to choose from with so many genres and subgenres. Yet there is always something that draws us to a specific type of book. Here we have the This Is My Genre Tell Me Yours book tag to tell you a little about my favorite genre.
This tag was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. And I was tagged last year by the super lovely Norrie from Reading Under the Blankie. Thank you so much!
The Rules
- Credit myself Drew @ TheTattooedBookGeek as the creator of the tag, either use the created tag name graphic or create your own and link back to my blog.
- Answer the questions.
- Tag as many people as you want.
What is your favourite genre?
Fantasy! Surprising, right? I especially like the high fantasy subgenre.
Who is your favourite author from this genre?
Oh that is hard. I’d say Terry Pratchett with his Discworld books is certainly a favorite. But also Jonathan Stroud within the more Urban Fantasy subgenre.
What is it about the genre that keeps pulling you back?
What pulls me back is the creativity. The abbility to sink into another world and not be confronted by my own. Amazing world building. Dragons. Always dragons.
What is the book that started your love for the genre?
It took me a while to really jump aboard the fantasy train. It certainly wasn’t there from early childhood. But I think the books that placed the seed are the Snowwalker trilogy books by Catherine Fisher. It has magic, snow, witches, castles, cute silent boys, strong female characters, strong relationships. Lots of elements that I still enjoy to this day.
If you had to recommend at least one book from your favourite genre to a non-reader/someone looking to start reading that genre, what book would you choose and why?
A difficult question but I think if you look at worldbuilding and characters, The Farseers trilogy by Robin Hobb is a great place to start really. For their size they are also incredibly quick reads.
Why do you read?
Why not? There is so much to find in reading. Great characters, world building, creativity, emotions. It can help with empathy. It can teach you so much.
Oh, dragons! Good point!
I don’t read many fantasy, but i prefer my video games with dragons 😁

Dragons in video games (especially if they are on your side) have to be the best

I love fantasy but haven’t read anything by Terry Pratchett, and it’s a little awkward to admit it. :p

WHAT? This is such blasphemy. You should read the Death trilogy at least. 😛 Death is probably one of the greatest characters I’ve read.

Haha don’t be. I love fantasy but there are a lot of authors I haven’t tried yet. If you do ever give him a chance, don’t start with The Colour of Magic!

I think that’s the one I own though because someone gave it to me….

I cannot wait to have time to get back to the Rain Wild books! 🐉
I have already done this tag, but I think I deleted it because of Drew’s sexist remarks around the internet. 😛 Thanks for thinking of me, though. 😊

I really need to continue on with the trilogy before that so I can get to the dragons.
Ah yeah that doesn’t surprise me really

I love this tag so much and honestly I expected you to do science fiction for some reason. I guess I am a fake fan!

I love sci-fi but I don’t read it as much as I do fantasy. Sci-fi sometimes scares me 😦
