Book Haul

Book Haul #38 – I turned 31 and All I Asked for Were Books

Look you all know this is going to be a large one…It is October. Book hauls are ALWAYS large in October. But for a change I didn’t actually buy most of these myself. Yeay me!

Reading Challenge(64)

9 From the Nine Worlds (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard Companion) by Rick Riordan = Read
I mean, obviously I had this on pre order. It is gorgeous. I love the cover and the inside has illustrations!

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Montague Siblings 2) by Mackenzi Lee
And of course I had a pre order of this. I love the spine of this book and I can’t wait to see how Felicity will go about everything.

Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria
Even though I haven’t read her first book I had to pre order this new standalone. Look at that cover. *.*

Bruja Born (Brooklyn Brujas 2) by Zoraida Cordova
Another pretty. I finally ordered this as Alicia from A Kernel of Nonsense loves this series so much and I have read the first one. This second one seems much more up my alley. I actually got it at the end of September but it was damaged so I had to send it back.

Carpe Jugulum (Discworld 23, Witches 6) by Terry Pratchett
Discworld Mapp by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs = Read
There can be no birthday without Discworld! With Carpe Jugulum I now have the Witches arc all so I can for sure just read through it all. And I’ve had my eye on this discworld mapp for a while. I know it is from 1995 but it is still so cute.
My mom gave me an amount to order books for my birthday for. These and the books from the 4 photos below are all from that.

And I Darken (The Conqueror’s Saga 1) by Kiersten White
Having gotten book 2 and 3 there had to be a book 1.

City of Stairs (The Divine Cities 1) by Robert Jackson Bennett
A few months ago I bought the second book thinking it was the first so I had to get this one.

The Copper Promise (The Copper Cat 1) by Jen Williams = Read
The Iron Ghost (The Copper Cat 2) by Jen Williams = Read
The Silver Tide (The Copper Cat 3) by Jen Williams
I read the first two at the end of the last year in Dutch from the library but I realized I wanted to own them earlier this year. I also think I want to reread these in Dutch and then read The Silver Tide to finish it off and start The Ninth Rain by the same author.  I really love these spines together.

Dragon Keeper (Rain Wild 1) by Robin Hobb
Dragon Haven (Rain Wild 2) by Robin Hobb
Okay I still need to finish the third trilogy but at least I’ll have these ready for me when I do.

The Darkest Legacy (The Darkest Minds 4) by Alexandra Bracken
Nyxia (Nyxia Triad 1) by Scott Reintgen
The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorani
The three books on this picture I got from my husband’s family. Surprise. In all these years I’ve never gotten books from them. Unfortunately I already got Nyxia (which was my fault) but this one matches the second one better so I’ll be getting rid of the one I already had.  The Darkest Legacy will be a buddy read with La La in the Library. And Library of Fates is just so gorgeous.

Toil & Trouble. Edited by Jessica Spotswood and Tess Sharpe
This was a present from my husband but I knew I was getting it because I begged for it when we were in Maastricht haha.

The Little Mermaid and Other Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen
The Unadulterated Cat by Terry Pratchett
Two more from my husband. I got King Arthur in the same edition as this littie mermaid one. They are so pretty! And I’ve had my eye on this little illustrated booklet from Pratchett for a while. Cats, how could I not?

I Kill Giants by Joe Kelly and Jim Ken Nimura +
And lastly I got this graphic novel (and the letter board) from my friend who has her birthday on the same day as me. 😀

Other Birthday Gifts

Yes there were other things than books…We saw this Hungarian Horntail in Maastricht and though I went back and forth between the various options opted to go with the dragon. I bought Seraphina on my birthday myself. And husband ordered Newt out of the suitcase for me when I saw one that was a bit cheaper because of box damage.

In Maastricht we also saw this demiguise and it is just the cutest okay. If I could just collect all the fantastic beasts and harry potter creature pops haha.

And husband also ordered these. I like these minatiure things with the sticker books.

Reading Challenge(63)

They Mostly Come Out at Night (Yarnsworld 1) by Benedict Patrick
This was a free kindle deal for a day at the end of Sept (but since I already had finished my book haul post I moved it to this month) and La La in the Library pointed it out at me. I actually read a short story in the anthology Lost Lore for this series and was immediately interested so I am quite pleased to be able to read this some day soon. (And soon here is relative obviously)
Second Star (The Neverland Chronicles) by J.M. Sullivan
Release Date: March 2019
From Netgalley. This is a read now (or it was when I got it) and is a Peter Pan retelling. It sounds really interesting, like sci-fi? So I could not pass that up.
A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison
Release Date: February 2019
From Netgalley. Sisters. Objects. Magic. Instantly got Charmed vibes so I can’t wait to see what this kind of book does with those three things.
★  The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky (Montague Siblings 1,5) by Mackenzi Lee +
I pre ordered The Lady’s Guide and if you send your receipt you got this novella send to you by email. It was a cute read. Reading Challenge(62) Untitled

It was the Dutch children’s book week after the young adult one and the big book was the picture book this year. I haven’t gotten around to read it with Merijn yet but will give it a go soon. Than the top smaller one was the book week gift this year. It was an interesting read. And then my mom also gave him a few of tiny cheap booklets as he likes to walk around with one in his hand.

  1. I just clapped when I read you bough Bruja Born because of me. Crossing my fingers you enjoy it as much as I did. I’m about to pick up Toil & Trouble from the library. Hoping it’s as good as everyone says since it will probably be my last book in October. Nice haul!

  2. So many pretty books!! I especially like the Hobbs and Pratchetts.

The Jen Williams novels are all still on my list and City of Stairs will probably go on there again as well. I didn’t like the sample, but for some reason I feel like giving it another chance. Hm!

9 from the nine worlds looks so stunning, omg!
Makes me greedy, lol. And illustrations inside as well? aaaawesome! I really need to read the first book in the Magnus Chase series so I can add this one to my wishlist as well haha.

the lady’s guide to petticoats and piracy sounds awesome, but I’ll have to wait until I finish reading book 1 before I buy this one haha.

Beneath the Citadel looks so stunning and the synopsis of that book is really intriguing. Can’t wait to see what you’ll think of it.

the Jen Williams book spines look stunning and I see dragons? or wyverns? makes me want to buy them asap even though I haven’t read any synopsis of one of the books, lol.

I love those Robin Hobb covers. I only have one book by this author but hope to expand my collection in the future.

    1. Yes the Jen Williams books has some dragons but not completely all about that either. But they are for sure worth it to read. I am forever sad they didn’t end up translating the third one.

Haha that whole collection that the little mermaid is from is just droolworthy.
There are some new statues coming out I saw. They are all so pretty. *.*

      He always gets pampered. 😉
