This year I am participating in a Spook-a-swap. A halloween bookish swap which is a lot of fun. The same person, Kwante in Wonderland, that is hosting this swap is also hosting a spook-a-thon from October 13th to October 31st. And since I will already be in the mood for some spooky I figured I might as well join in on the fun.
You can find more info on the spook-a-thon here. It is in Dutch, however at the top you can change the language to English on her blog and you should be able to read the post.
Below you can find my tbr. It will really depend on how far I am with my review copies and the like how much I’ll be able to read of this stack. This is also just a stack to pick from. And I might also change things around completely. I have plenty of books to do it haha.
There are also some prompts like Haunted Mansion (read a book with a creepy cover or show your book at a haunted mansion), Hocus Pocus (read something supernatural), Urban Legend (read a horror or (ya) thriller), Devils Hour (read a book after midnight), Halloween Cover Hunt (read a book with the halloween colors on the cover), All Hallow’s Eve (read 6 books) Some of these I can fit already, others not. We’ll see how it goes.
Wyrd Sisters (Witches 2, Discworld by Terry Pratchett) / Hocus Pocus
I read the first book a few months ago and so this is up next for my Discworld reads. Witches are obviously perfect for a spook-a-thon.
Skullduggery Pleasant & Playing with Fire (Skullduggery Pleasant 1 & 2) by Derek Landy / Haunted Mansion
I’ve had the bind-up of these first two books for a while now and it just seems like it is time to finally read them. A skeleton seems like the perfect read for Halloween haha.
And I Darken & Now I Rise & Bright We Burn (Conquerer’s Saga 1-3) by Kiersten White
After having read The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein I knew I had to pick up this trilogy. I’ve heard mostly good things about it. And you know a genderbend historical retelling seems quite fitting as a spooky read…
Toil & Trouble: 15 Tales of Women and Witchcraft. Edited by Tess Sharpe and Jessica Spotswood
I’ve had my eye on this one for a while and since I know I am getting it for my birthday (the 12th) it seems like the perfect book for Halloween.
Neverwhere (London Below 1) by Neil Gaiman /
It is about time I started this gorgeous illustrated edition. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Neverwhere. And it is Gaiman so perfect for a spooky read.
City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake 1) by Victoria Schwab / Halloween Cover Hunt
The title alone is enough to get a place on this tbr obviously.
A Thousand Beginnings and Endings. Edited by Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman
Perhaps not as spooky but another anthology seems like a great add for this tbr. And I really need to read this.
Year One (Chronicles of the One 1) by Nora Roberts
Sickness and chaos seems perfect for a halloween read.
The Beast Is an Animal by Peternelle van Arnsdale / Urban Legend
I pre ordered this when it came out but then never read it. Seems like now is the perfect time.
Are you participating in a halloween readalong/read-a-thon?
Ps: Kwante is also hosting a creepycrawly daily bookstagram challenge so if you still want to join in you can find the graphic on her bookstagram.
