So I wasnt doing too bad this month and then the last week of my husband’s vacation came around and got 5 books in 4 days. So lets just get into it…
+ = Read
★ Ptolemy’s Gate (Bartimaeus 3) by Jonathan Stroud +
La La in the Library found me the hardcover of this one too! Now I have them all in hardcover. As I am typing this I am shouting it in my head but I won’t do all caps to your eyes.
★ City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake 1) by Victoria Schwab
This was a pre order I did a while ago. I really hope I will like it. I’m saving it for my halloween spook-a-thon tbr. I thought this was going to be a standalone but I see it will at least be a duology now.
★ Now I Rise (Conquerer’s Saga 2) by Kiersten White
★ Bright We Burn (Conquerer’s Saga 3) by Kiersten White
So after reading The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein I knew I had to get this series. My mom had asked me to make an order for my birthday and I’ve included And I Darken in that one. But after that I saw that there was an offer for 2 for 15 Euro online and these were in it so I jumped on that to have the whole series right away. Well I’m getting And I Darken for my birthday but you know what I mean…
★ Only Human (Themis Files 3) by Sylvain Neuvel
★ Charmcaster (Spellslinger 3) by Sebastien de Castell
Obviously when Merijn and I met Zwartraafje in Breda we bought books…
Yes I finally found Only Human in hardcover in a store for a decent price. I’m going to save this for sci-fi month this november. And I haven’t started the Spellslinger series yet but I am expecting to love it. Since mine is already mixmatched anyway and it was a really good price for this hardcover I bought it.
★ A Little History of Dragons by Joyce Hargreaves
★ Aru Shah and the End of Time (Pandava Quartet 1) by Roshani Chokshi
During husband’s vacation we went to Eindhoven and visited Van Piere, a book store obviously. A Little History of Dragons was a random find. Aru Shah was the first I saw of it in pb and of course I grabbed it. I wanted to grab so much more there but I held back…
★ Lampje by Annet Schaap +
★ Six Heirs (The Secret of Ji 1) by Pierre Grimbert
Lampje is a Dutch Children’s/Middle Grade book that has been recced to be countless times by Evelyn from bookstore Westerhof in Zwolle. I finally bought and read it while we were away at my parents. The Secret of Ji I’ve had my eye on for a while but never bought. The library for a while told me it wasn’t availble and all. So here it is.
★ Norse Myths: Tales of Odin, Thor and Loki by Kevin Crossley-Holland
This is another book that tells the stories of the Norse Myths. I’m curious about how it will be with the illustrations. I’ve never read anything by this author though I know he is rather well known for his King Arthur books. It is so pretty.
★ Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, told by Tiny Fisscher
Blossom Books is a Dutch publisher who likes to try new things and they are rereleasing classics like Romeo and Juliet. In this case Tiny Fisscher put the screen play into a real novel. This edition is so pretty.
★ Arrowood (Arrowood 1) by Mick Finlay
A little out of my comfort zone but the fact that this is set in the same world as Sherlock Holmes just draws me in.
★ Nyxia (Nyxia Triad 1) by Scott Reintgen
★ Nyxia Unleashed (Nyxia Triad 2) by Scott Reintgen
In the same offer of 2 for 15 as the Kiersten White books I saw these two Nyxia ones that I have been meaning to get to. I doubted myself for a little but in the end made the order a week later.
★ 3Pak 2018 by Raoul de Jong, Nhung Dam, Tim Hofman +
3Pak is the book week gift for this year’s Book Week of the Youth. I have read it and only enjoyed the first story. Also my biggest complaint is that only one story seems to be dealing with a youth. The other two (including the one I liked) not so much. I am happy to see some more diverse authors here though.
★ Cogheart (The Cogheart Adventures 1) by Peter Bunzl
Release Date: February 12th 2019
This I got from Netgalley and is actually a rerelease. I’ve had my eye on the ebook for a while but haven’t done an ebook haul in quite a while, and then I saw it on Netgalley.
★ A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
Release Date: January 29th 2019
From Netgalley. I’ve seen this mentioned quite a bit lately in the 2019 releases front. It is a beauty and the Beast retelling so I am all on board for that. I do think I might want to read the original beforehand. Not sure yet.
★ Sugar Spells (The Spellwork Syndicate 2) by Lola Dodge +
Release Date: October 30th 2018
From Netgalley. I read the first book of this at the start of the year so I am curious to see how this second book will be!
★ Valiant by Merrie Destefano
Release Date: December 4th 2018
From Netgalley. I could not resist that cover. Look at it. I’ve also heard absolutely nobody mention this book.
★ White Stag (Permafrost 1) by Kara Barbieri
Release Date: January 8th 2019
From Netgalley. This was read now on netgalley for 48 hours last week and I was alerted on it by a few people so here we are.
★ Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
Release Date: November 8th 2018
From Netgalley. So on US Netgalley and Edelweiss I was declined for this book and I was sad forever. But then it appeared on UK netgalley and I got approved. Yeay me! No cover since the UK one doesn’t seem to have one yet?
We have a book subscription in Merijn’s age range that comes every 3 months with 4 books and these were the ones we got at the start of September. The top right one is actually cut outs of animals to help with drawing them to color in. He needs to be a bit older for that but fun for sure.
And this lovely book about the seasons he got from Zwartraafje! Thank you again! He really likes it.
Wow, what a fantastic haul! I’ve been wanting to read City of Ghosts just as well, it sounds like a great book, perfect for the season, too. I hope you’ll enjoy it 🙂 I also want to read A Curse So Dark and Lonely, it sounds like a great book! 😀
Happy reading!! 😀

Ooh you got lots of fun books! That’s awesome. I really want to read City of Ghosts, but I don’t own a copy yet. I DO have Vengeful from the author though and hope to read that this month. I signed up for the FraterFest so I have a set time to really dive into the spooky reads. 🙂

Oh I hope you enjoyed or will enjoy Vengeful. Vicious wasn’t really my cup of tea so I haven’t gotten Vengeful yet.

That little dragon book is so pretty. 🐉
You know I don’t go for the gods and mythos books, but that Norse Myths book is stunning, and of course I have already drooled over the Romeo and Julia photos you took. 💜
Thanks for mentioning that Cogheart is on Netgalley. The author was trying to get the publisher to send me an ARC when it released in the UK, but they wouldn’t do it because a tentative US publication was dependent on how well it did there first. He was supposed to let me know if and when it went up on Netgalley for the US, I stopped touching base with him on Twitter so I guess it’s my fault. We need a fingers crossed emoji. Ha ha. 👍✨
Peppa Pig! 🐽

Right? I fell for those three instantly, haha.
Fingers crossed you’ll get it too. I’ve been really curious about it.

EEEP WHAT AN AWESOME HAUL! I can’t wait for your thoughts on City of Ghosts–I’m really curious about it. Also super jealous that you got approved for A Curse So Dark and Lonely (I haven’t read the original, but I love almost all Beauty & the Beast retellings I’ve read so far), and White Stag!

Fijn dat Merijn het een leuk boek vindt. Ook wel grappig dat er nu wortels in die boom groeien. 🙂 Die kat embossing op de cover van City of Ghosts is een heel leuk detail.

I bow to your incredible admission of sin. Because holy buckets– I am so jealous of this haul! There are so many books on this list I love or am dying to read. In particular, I cannot wait to read City of Ghosts and Being Human!
Are you running out of space for books yet? 😉

Haha I’m jealous of me too. 😀 I am curious about Being Human. I can’t wait to see how it continues.
And shhhh maybe? For sure after my birthday haul now though 😉

You were doing so well! I was a little concerned, to be honest, but I’m glad to see you’re back with the rest of us who just can’t help themselves. xD I grabbed a copy of City of Ghosts, too, and I can’t wait to read it! But closer to Halloween. I grabbed The Conquerer’s Saga on eBook, but I suspect you’ll probably read them before me, so I can’t wait to see what you think. 🙂 I grabbed White Stag, too! It looked too good to pass up.
I have to say, I’m impressed by your restraint, but your book haul is pretty fabulous. 🙂

Yeah I’m hoping to read it in the last two weeks of this month too.
Yes very curious about White Stag too.
