Another author centric Tuesday for Top Ten Tuesday this week (as always hosted over on That Artsy Reader Girl). I am not completely likely to go out of my way to meet an author. I mean the struggle of finding a babysitter or having to take Merijn with me. The crowds. The travelling. Being lazy…
So while there have been oppurtunities this year to meet some of the ones below, I haven’t taken them. It just wasn’t the right time. It is sad but not the end of the world. Even so I would still totally like to meet these some day.
Jonathan Stroud
Surprise!
You are all surprised, right? This is probably the only author at the moment where I would really put in ALL the effort to go see. I love his two series and characters just that much.
Neil Gaiman
Since it is not possible to meet Terry Pratchett anymore, we’ll go with the second best. I’m kidding! Though I don’t think he’d even mind if you said that to his face and he would probably agree with you. But don’t do it. He seems like a very nice and honest man who does try to listen to some of the feedback he gets regarding priveledge.
Rick Riordan
Again, he just seems like a very nice man and I really enjoy his books. Once Merijn is old enough they are certainly going to be on the top of my list to read with him.
Rachel Hartman
I fell very hard in love with her books and just for that I’d like to meet her.
Naomi Novik
Again, I just love her books and she seems like a great person. She was also in the Netherlands this year but it meant going to a bigger event and that just wasn’t worth it to me. If she ever just does a bookstore visit or something like that I’ll be the first in line.
Robin Hobb
I mean, it is Robin Hobb. She was in the Netherlands this Summer at Castle fest or something of the sort. But the tickets were quite expensive, it was in the same weekend as Deventer Bookmarket, and I don’t think I could have found a sitter for multiple days in a row. So I opted out of going. Next time!
Intisar Khanani
I’m in a facebook group for her books and my gosh she is such a kind soul. Would totally love to meet her some day. โค
Robin Hobb would be great to meet- I’ve enjoyed many of her books. Gaiman and Riordan both would be amazing as well I imagine!

They are! One of my former co-worker asked me for recs for her son and I gave her Riordan. And his reading improved so much.

I wouldn’t mind hearing Naomi Novik speak. Spinning Silver teases every time I walk by my shelf.

Do authors do many book signings in the Netherlands? There aren’t too many that come to Colorado, it seems. Although there are a couple of authors that I know of that live here (although not YA authors that I know of).

Not like in most of America. We don’t get added to a lot of tours haha. Publishers here do try and attract more authors to come and visit.

Jonathan Stroud?! What? I never would’ve guessed! I’m flabbergasted! xD (Please note the sarcasm hehe). This is a great list. ๐ And sarcasm aside, I’d enjoy meeting Jonathan Stroud too lol.

Oh my god, I don’t even know what I would do if I had the opportunity to meet Rick Riordan! He’s basically my childhood hero so I feel like I’d just freeze up and smile nervously haha
All the authors on your list are amazing! ๐

OF COURSE STROUD. Why wouldn’t he be first?! ๐ Great list! Gaiman is on my own TTT, as well. I should have added Riordan– and of authors I haven’t read yet, Novik and Hobb are high on my to-meet list as well. Now, how do we make this happen? ๐

Ah I hope you get to read Novik and Hobb soon. You are in for a treat there.

I’ve been wanting to read The Farseer Trilogy for a while now. But I only recently learned that all her trilogies are interconnected? Like Discworld? Or is it more linear than that? I cannot recall. Still — so much to learn and remember!

I think her books are a bit more linear than Discworld. I think you can read each trilogy seperately but with all the hints and bits it feels like it is better to read them in order. Having said that, the Farseers trilogy is the first and stands on its own just fine. ๐

I am looking forward to reading it, then! It’s been so long since I’ve dug into a good fantasy series…
