Happy Blog Birthday to A Dance with Books
Three years already!
Three years since I first dared to publish my review on this blog, Legend by Marie Lu. Since then this little blog has grown quite a bit and I never imagined I would have 700 followers at this point or the kind of interaction I get from you all. It is much appreciated.
When I look back at when I started there have been so many changes to the blog. I changed the style of things like book reviews a few times now. But I also never used the subtitles in posts when I started. Look at me now.
I know a lot of people talk about how book blogs are getting less interest or that the stats are decreasing but personally I don’t see this in my blog. My stats are still growing quite nicely. Sure I might not have the big stats as some other bloggers have, and so it is still easier to grow, but I am very pleased with the amount of interaction I get in return. Sometimes I see bloggers with a lot of followers and stats, barely getting any comments on their blog posts. Personally I attach more meaning to reactions and interactions I get from other bloggers and readers than I do when it comes to the actual stats.
Taking a look at those stats I see that December 2017 was one of my best months overal. Which is interesting because compared to other years December usually wasn’t a top month. But I think it shows that I put in a bit more effort in the month of December as a holiday month.
My top 3 most viewed posts are:
- Review of Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt (August 2015)
- The Ultimate Game of Thrones Book Tag (June 2016)
- 14 Bloggers Share Their Christmas Reads (December 2017)
I am quite pleased to see the Christmas Reads post scoring so highly on this. I’m not sure why there is a tag post in there but that probably has to do with having Game of Thrones in the title, haha. And my most viewed post of ever still remains Hex. It was around the time that this book was going to be translated and I got a wild increase in traffic towards that review.
Now don’t be scared by this little subtitle. These are not going to be huge changes. The blog will keep going for a while. But what I have not changed in a long while is the header. I never did dare to play around with graphics. I’m not particulary good at it but as I was planning ahead this post in April I had some time during a day where Merijn was at grandpa and started playing around on canva.
So as this posts (well actually on Saturday as we aren’t home as this posts) I will be changing my header. And the post headers on my main page will also change with new blogs. I decided to keep the butterfly. I have had the butterfly book mark as my header for so long that I figured this is something that others will recognize me by and I think it suits me to a point.
I’m sure the graphics aren’t perfect to you seasoned designers but I like it and as I continue to grow on the blog, I will probably slowly develop some of the headers more.
For a change I have also created a blog survey. These are mostly general questions. I have never made a blog survey before so I hope it isn’t too awkward in the question department. In general I don’t think it should take you longer than 10 minutes to answer it. I’m hoping to share the results in July.
