On Thursday October 12th I turned the ripe age of 30 years old. Honestly, as much as I have teased my husband with being 30 (turned in March) I really don’t care too much about this number. I think I dread becoming 40 more. That just seems old. Wink.

My parents were here for the week and my husband arranged to have a day off. The weather wasn’t too dreadful either so for the most part it was an okay day in that regard. Merijn was still dealing with his molars and not always in the best mood. I think maybe next year I’d just like to spend my birthday alone and reading. That would be a nice change. Not that I am ungrateful but I like my alone time as well, you know.
Having said that though, I have hauled. I am quite fortunate to have a husband that loves to gift me books and buys them from my wishlist. And I always get a bunch of things from my parents even though they already gifted me something nice. So first up the non-bookish haul and then the book haul. These are just books from my birthday. Not from September and the rest of October. That is still to come. I know. November I cannot buy books. I am going to try my hardest.

Non-Bookish Haul
I got this necklace of a boy’s head (engraved with Merijn’s name in the back) from my parents this Summer already. But it was for my birthday.
Along with this lovely card, Liesbet from Zwartraafje also made the accio keys keychain, the books hanger, and the friendships bracelet. ❤
Ha, my husband said these were the presents Merijn choose for me. I’ll get back on the book in the book section, but look at that house thing. It is to put my collected minions away in. I’m crying laughing here, haha.
These were a few other things I got from my parents.
This is handmade pottery from my hometown. I grew up in a sea town and at the beach it has this light house. It is actually a waxine holder.
And lastly I got these as an extra from my husband when we visited the local comic book store. They are dvd’s of XXX Holic. And you all know that I love that series.

The Book Haul
★ Percy Jackson and the Olympians boxset by Rick Riordan
I’ve had my eye on this boxset for a while but never bought it when I saw it in paperback. But lately I’ve seen it in hardcover. I have almost all of Riordan’s books in hardcover except PJO and two companion books, and mine are a bit mixmatched. But it was expensive. There was a discount on boxsets online for a bit and I had to get this. Early birthday present to myself. 😀 I can’t find the exact one on goodreads though.
★ Gravity Falls: Journal 3 by Alex Hirsh
Well, this wasn’t on my wishlist but my husband saw it as he was scrolling online and knew he wanted to gift it to me. I love Gravity Falls so this is such a cool book to me.
★ Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling, ravenclaw 20th anniversary edition
Yeay so I finally have this beauty. I just love the painted pages. Maybe I’ll give it a reread during winter time.
★ Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer 1) by Laini Taylor
I wasn’t a fan of her earlier series but I’ve been seeing this around so much that I got very curious. I actually ordered this myself for my birthday through my mom’s account (obviously with her permission) but accidentally ordered the large print. Ugh. Oh well.
★ Akata Witch (Akata Witch 1) by Nnedy Okorafor
Do you know how long I’ve had this on my wishlist for my birthday? Three years. It is the new cover now (but I really like that old hardcover as well). So curious about this.
★ Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
Cait from Paper Fury screams about this often so when I saw it I pointed it out to my husband and now it is mine. Ha.
★ Only You Can Save Mankind (Johnny Maxwell 1) by Terry Pratchett
Look, when I got the second one at the Deventer book market you knew this one was coming soon… They look delightfully short and easy to devour.
★ Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeannette NG
I saw this pass me by on Goodreads once and then when I saw it in the book store it caught my attention right away. I barely have heard of it but that cover looks mighty interesting.
★ Serafina and the Black Cloak (Serafina 1) by Robert Beatty
I was excited to see that this got translated to Dutch at the start of the year, but never came across it in the book stores when I visited. When I finally did my husband immediately added it to my birthday stack.
★ Ship of Magic (Liveship Traders 1) by Robin Hobb
★ The Mad Ship (Liveship Traders 2) by Robin Hobb
★ Ship of Destiny (Liveship Traders 3) by Robin Hobb
Yeay, husband picked this of my list so I can finally continue on with this realm!
★ The Story of King Arthur and his Knights by Howard Pyle
I’ve always had an interest in Camelot and Merlin and so on. And this gorgeous edition really caught my attention. I’m very happy to have it. It is gorgeous.

Those Percy Jackson books are gorgeous. I will be looking out for what you think about Strange the Dreamer. It is getting really mixed reviews, but that cover *heart eyes* I like it better than the moth one, don’t you? The King Arthur title and the Under the Pendulum Sun book are stunning! You got a lot of eye candy including the Hobb books and the Akita Witch. 📚📚📚
Merijn picked out some fab gifts, ha ha. That minion house is amazing. And your parents know that no 30th birthday would be complete without special toilet paper! 🚽
Maybe next year you can ask for everyone to pitch in for a fancy hotel room for you on the weekend, so you can order room service and read books. Hmm… that actually sounds like a fabulous idea. I might ask for that present, myself. 🏰

I’m very curious. I hear it is a bit on the slow side but I don’t always mind that if it is well written. I like both but I think the color of this one does pop out more. I like eye candy. 😀
One must have special tp…
Haha, it is a fabulous present. 😀

Happiest of birthdays! I have that same set of Percy Jackson books. I still need to finish them though. I also just purchased Akata Witch. Can’t wait to check it out. I need that Ravenclaw edition. I actually bought my nephew a Hufflepuff edition and am saving it for him for Christmas. Maybe I will get myself a Christmas gift.

Love your haul! And a late happy birthday to you! 🙂
Had to laugh with the toilet paper. I’ve seen it around a few times; might have to get it for my boyfriend’s birthday this year.. I’ll have to write that down. 😀
