Back in July I saw the cake flavoured books tag pass by on Paper Fury. This was a tag that originally orginated on bookstagram that she answered in a blog post and added a few questions too. When I saw it I knew that would be the perfect tag to do in my birthday week (as it was my birthday October 12th). Since I turned 30 I figured I needed cake. Lots of it…
Anyway I added the last question, haha.
Chocolate Cake
A dark book you absolutely love
The Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo. It has its darkness but is full of delicious characters and humor and interactions.
Vanilla Cake
A light read
Enchanted Inc by Shanna Swendson is a delicious fantasy chick-lit book. Perfect for a light hearted fantasy read or as in introduction to fantasy. But another book that comes to mind is Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.
Red Velvet
A book that gave you mixed emotions
A whole series actually. The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. I have only read the first 6 of 10 now I think. But I feel conflicted. On the one hand I love the world and everthing. But I had a hard time with the rape.
Cheesecake
A book you would recommend to anyone
Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho is such a delicious historical fantasy book that deserves so much more attention than it has been getting. The characters are just precious.
Coffee Cake
A book you started but never finished
The Magician King by Lev Grossman. Honestly I liked The Magicians despite all its flaws but I could not get through the first 100 pages of this second book. Maybe this will be different now that I have watched the show (even though I’m certain it has diverged a bit).
Carrot Cake
A book with great writing
Anything by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. You can’t make me choose.
Tiramisu
Book that left you wanting more
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. I needs the Felicity companion that is coming next year so much.
Cupcakes
Series with 4+ books
The Others / Discworld / Lockwood & Co. / The Lunar Chronicles
Fruitcake
A book that wasn’t what you expected
Negative: The Love Interest
Positive: Emerald Blade
Lamington Favorite
Australian Book(s)
The Book Thief, duh.
I haven’t heard of this book tag before, but it seems such a fun one. I think I might have to join it. Thank you for sharing. π Six of Crows would have been my choice for chocolate cake too. And, maybe This Savage Song too. I love dark worlds where not everything is black or white.
Happy readings! And happy belated birthday! π

I said I would read Six of Crows this year, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening lol. Next year it is then! I’ve heard good things about the Fever series, but oh
Is it the type of rape that’s made out to be sexy? Or is it meant to be rape? Cuz I handle rape, I just can’t stand when it’s disguised as something sexy. And now I’m off to go check out that Sorcerer to the Crown book π

Oh, happy birthday! Belatedly π
I love this tag. It’s just so sweet π (badum tss..)
Also, with Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman you don’t have to choose! They’re co-written a book π have you read Good Omens? I still have it on my TBR, but will read it one day.

What a wonderful tag! I love that you added Tompouce to this list. Yummmmm! I traveled to ‘s-Hertogenbosch a few times for work in a previous job and I made certain to ALWAYS get Tompouce when I visited. I love its texture. Now I certainly have to add Emerald Blade to my TBR. Unexpected winners are the greatest!
Happy belated birthday! Did you get any awesome new books for your birthday?
