Book Haul #23 – So Many Books, Too Much Time To Buy Them In

I thought July was bad and was determined not to get too much in August besides the Deventer book market. But it sucks when that is at the start of the month. It never does deal with my book buying needs the rest of the month. So August was even worse.

I’m going to go hide under my TBR pile that is never going to get smaller.

+ = Read

Because You Love to Hate Me. Edited by Aimeriie +
I’ve had this book on my radar since it was announced last year. I thought the combination of authors and booktubers could be interesting and I watch some of these booktubers. There are also some great authors a part of this like V.E. Schwab and Marissa Meyer. And it has some authors I want to read books of like Cindy Pon and Adam Silvera. Figured this would a great way to read something by them.

Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices 1) by Cassandra Clare
I KNOW. I said I wasn’t going to read on with these. That I was DONE. And yet here I am because everyone and their mother (aka Cait from Paper Fury) are shouting it is so good.

Skuggan (The World of Voodoo 1) by Petrus Dahlin and Lars Johansson
A friend was unhauling some books and she had some for Merijn and she thought I might find this interesting so here it is. I might.

Song Rising (The Bone Season 3) by Samantha Shannon
I saw this online at a sale for 10 Euro. That is rather cheap for a hardcover here considering it only came out this year.

Troll Trouble (Spiderwick Chronicles 2 part 2) by Holly Black and Tony Diterlizzi +
Spiderwick is just such a cute series from what I’ve read so far and La La in the Library was so lovely to send this little book with some bookmarks to me. Thank you again. ❤ ❤

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz +
I’ve been hearing about this book for a few years now and as a Dutch publisher recently published it I figured I should finally give it a go.
The Novice (The Summoner 1) by Taran Matharu
Same goes for this book really. I’ve heard some mixed things about it but I’m still mostly curious.

UntitledEtched in Bone (The Others 5) by Anne Bishop +
It is finally here! Of course I had already read this as I got the manuscript 3 weeks early but I’m still super happy with my finished copy.

Sunbolt (Sunbolt Chronicles 1) by Intisar Khanani +
I won this book from the very lovely author over on Facebook and I am so happy. ❤

The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell
I’ve been super looking forward to this book.

As you could already see in my post about the Deventer Book Market, I hauled quite the stack in August. But next to those books I also got some others.

The Jewel (The Lone City 1) by Amy Ewing
The Finisher (Vega Jane 1) by David Baldacci
At Zwartraafje’s high tea this month she also held a small book trade. I traded a book for The Jewel with her. And someone else really wanted to be rid of The Finisher. Apparently in Dutch this was published in 2 parts.

Ruined (Ruined 1) by Amy Tintera
So Cait from Paperfury was screaming about this book last year. So when I saw this book somewhat cheaper in hc I decided to get it. It sounds very appealing to me.

Untitled Pindakaas en Sushi (Pindakaas en Sushi 1) by Roderick Leeuwenhart
This book I had seen on some Dutch blogs as it is a Dutch book, obviously from the title. It is about anime conventions and such I believe within the Netherlands. And as I used to read a lot of manga back in high school this appealed to me. In august my town had a comic festival and the author had a stand there where he was selling and signing the books. I could not pass that up.

Revocatie (De Demon van Fellswyck 2) by Jurgen Snoeren
Preorder! I really enjoyed the first book of this fantasy series by this Dutch author earlier this year and as this is a duology I had to have it.

Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick
My parents were here the last few days of August and of course I could not get away without any book gifts. The first one was this Dutch edition of Wonderstruck in hardcover I saw for 5 euro. I’ve been curious about his work with the illustrations and text so this was too good to pass up.

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson
Something competely different but ever since I first saw this tiny hardcover in the bookstore I’ve had my eye on it. The cover is so stunning too. So of course my mom then had to buy it for me. I’m very curious how I’m going to find this. I like space but never have the patience to really learn about it so this seems like a good place to start. If I like it I might go back and look at some of his other work.

The Ghost Line by Andrew Neil Gray and J.S. Herbinson +
The Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle +
The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee +
Netgalley. So excited I got approved for this!
The Tiger’s Watch (Ashes of Gold 1) by Julia Ember +
And oh my gosh I was approved for this on Netgalley too. I am so happy. ❤
The Last Namsara (Iskari 1) by Kristen Ciccarelli +
And also was not expected to be approved for this on Netgalley.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers 1) by Becky Chambers +
You might remember that my husband gifted me the second book at Christmas last year without me having the first one. I haven’t purchased it yet and when I saw that the ebook was 1,- Euro I had to grab it quickly. This way I can read it and see if I can find a matching hardcover in the mean time. Hopefully.
Faefever (Fever 3) by Karen Marie Moning +
Dreamfever (Fever 4) by Karen Marie Moning +
Shadowfever (Fever 5) by Karen Marie Moning +
I finally decided to just get these so I can finish the first 5 of the series (as the others move away from this main character I think) this year.

What is the most exciting book you hauled in August?

  1. omg I’m so happy you decided to go on with the shadowhunter books. Lady midnight was awesome but I had some comments on the book as well. But Lord of Shadows.. my goddd.. That was Clare at her best and it’s phenomenal!!!!! I’m already looking forward to see what you’ll think of it!

You got a really nice haul there, damn! I’m so curious about the samantha shannon books, added them to my wishlist. Hope I can buy em soon. And the last magician looks so beautiful!!!

    1. I’m curious to see what I’ll think. I wasn’t a fan of The Mortal Instruments but really enjoyed The Infernal Devices.

I thought The Bone Season was okay, a good read but nothing special. We’ll see how I think of the rest of them, haha.

  2. Nice haul! I have a lot of books too but doubt I’ll have much time to read them as I’m starting college this month 😛 I’ve been curious about the Summoner books for quite some time and will read the first soon 😛 Hope you enjoy 🙂

Volgende maand ga ik me echt herpakken.

Never say never. Ik heb weer wat review boeken die ik moet lezen dus mijn stapel zal wel weer groeien deze maand. Ouch. Maar opbeurend, ik laat mijn ebook tbr niet stijgen. Yeay ik.

I am so good at this book recommending thing. :’) And fajsdklafd I love Ari & Dante too so like stamp of approval on that one too.😂 Alsoooo Lady Midnight is just EVERYTHING I ever love and need in a book and just wait till you fall in love with all those Blackthorns. 😍😍

    1. Haha that you are! But you can stop shouting now. I already have a tbr the size of mount everest. It doesn’t need to become like the mount of Olympus. 😉
I am very curious about those Blackthorns.

  5. Wow, this is a fabulous haul! I got Ruined (and the sequel!) because of Cait’s flails too 😉 I loved Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, I hope you do too! Neil deGrasse Tyson’s book does look so different (and yes, pretty!) I’d love to read it, I find him so fascinating. I’m looking forward to reading Tiger’s Watch and Genie Lo too, I’m glad you got approved for them, I hope you enjoy all your new additions!

    1. She is good at the flailing. 😉 I really enjoyed The Long Way!
Right, me too. It is why I want to try this book by him.
Oh I hope you will love Genie Lo as much as I did!

  6. This is really weird. There were all these blog posts I remember reading over the last two weeks on your blog, and a couple others, that I thought I commented on and I didn’t. It was either the cold medicine I was taking or I am getting senile. Ha ha.

I need to get the Astrophysics book. I used to read about black holes, quasars, and the like all the time. I love Carl Sagan’s books. The cover is very pretty.

And you are welcome again about the book mail. ❤
